Honesty: Beyond Earnest
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the adjective earnest means proceeding with an intense and serious state of mind. Earnest characterizes an eagerness toward to idea. Whether that idea is moral, just, honorable or honest remains to be seen. In other words, an unjust person may work in earnest to accomplish vile goals and so it is important to distinguish between this adjective and the noun: honesty.
Honesty, by the same source, is defined as sincerity, fairness and straightforwardness of conduct. Honesty stands as the altar-like noun decorated with adjectives and yet beyond blandishments. Honesty is solid.
Honesty, it’s hardly ever heard and mostly what I need from you.
